A unique initiative by the employees to raise funds for the underprivileged children of Sparsha Trust
‘iVerve’ the Employees’ club of Infinite Computer Solutions, a global IT company, hosted the first ever ‘Infinite Golf Challenge’ on Saturday 14 June, at Eagleton Golf Resort in Bangalore, with the objective of raising funds for Sparsha Trust, an NGO that works towards keeping children off the streets. The Infinite Golf Challenge is an annual fundraising event, designed to be a fun day of golf for a cause, conceptualized by employees of Infinite. Many leading corporates came forward to support the event, which included Microsoft, iYogi, Futurisk, Monster, Sonata, 22 by 7, Callaway Golf, ColorPlus, Kingfisher, The Serai, ITC Gardenia and PASH India.
An array of golfers including senior executives from the corporate world had a fun-filled day at the event. The noteworthy aspect of this event is the transparency maintained in transferring all funds generated from the efforts of the employees directly to the NGO. A new account has been created for the fund transfer that is solely for the Infinite Golf Challenge event.
The interesting twists announced on the morning of the tournament had every participant engaged in the game through the four and half hours of play. The highlight of the Infinite Golf Challenge included the support and participation of leading Pro Golfers Anirban Lahiri, S. Chikkarangappa and Niki Ponappa during the entire tournament and awards ceremony.
Sharing his experience at the Infinite Golf Challenge, Anirban Lahiri, Pro Golfer who earlier this year, broke into the Top 100 in the OWGR said, “For me personally it was a gratifying experience. This was a special and very unique event. As a professional golfer I feel glad I was able to contribute to a cause like Sparsha through IGC. I look forward to attending future tournaments organised by Infinite Computer Solutions.”
Speaking at the occasion Upinder Zutshi, Managing Director and CEO of Infinite said, “We are excited to have organized a world- class golf tournament for the growing number of golf enthusiasts in our country while supporting a noble cause. The passion of the Infinite employees to conceptualise and execute something of this scale to create awareness for a worthy social cause is something we are all very proud of.”
Spokesperson Gopinath from Sparsha said,” We are delighted that companies like Infinite from the corporate sector are coming forward to support social causes like ours and giving the needed encouragement for us to function and reach the millions of needy people in our country."
For the children of Sparsha Trust it was a day of fun including their interaction with their favourite film maker Master Kishan. Speaking on the occasion, youngest professional feature film director and Guinness world Record holder Master Kishan, said ‘ I would like to thank each participant not only for taking out time, but also for coming forward in support of this cause which builds a home, a shelter for these underprivileged children. It is great to see an organisation like Infinite coming forward to provide a platform for a worthy cause supported by organisations like Sparsha”.
Having interacted with the children from Sparsha Trust, Chikka had this to say on the occasion, “This was the first time I’ve participated in an event like this. I was unsure of what the whole tournament was about initially and then when I realised all funds were directly going to Sparsha Trust I was very happy. The commitment of the Company towards the fundraiser was amazing. I have faced great difficulties in my childhood and it is only because of the support of many people that I am where I am today. This was an opportunity for me to give back to society. If I could help 20 children I’ll be very happy. They are the future and have a lot of untapped talent. As for the tournament itself, I thoroughly enjoyed myself. In my 10-11 years of being a golfer I have not seen such a wonderfully organised corporate golf tournament fundraiser. I was at Hole 1 and had a blast! Thanks to Team Infinite!”
Sparsha was established with the prime objective of proclaiming, protecting and defending Children’s rights as affirmed in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989). Like in many other countries, in India the rights of children are still generally low on agendas.
The objective of Sparsha is to design organizational initiatives and establish safe platform for needy and vulnerable children, i.e. drop outs, street children and working children who are economically and socially challenged to provide basic services and integrate them into the main-stream of society. Providing shelter homes for children who are in need of care and protection, re-admitting children who are out of schools, establishing alternative family care for children without parental care are some of the major activities of our organization.
